The Royal Collections Gallery invites you on an extraordinary trip: a journey through culture inside an exceptional building.
You’ll explore a selection of 100 items from the Royal Collections, chosen from more than 650 that are on show at the Gallery: paintings, sculptures, armour, tapestries, decorative items or carriages that bear the hallmark of masters such as El Greco, Caravaggio, Velázquez, Tiepolo or Goya.
The Gallery also functions as a window into all Royal Sites and Royal Patronage Foundations managed by Patrimonio Nacional (El Escorial, Aranjuez, La Granja, Yuste, Descalzas Reales…), as well as the works of research, curating, documentation and publicity that we carry out.
The downward route via wide ramps includes several audiovisual resources that help to contextualise the collections to be viewed.

The tour begins with the Catholic Kings at the end of the 15th century and explores the kingdoms of the Habsburgs, from Charles V until Charles II, at the end of the 17th century. A period of more than two centuries in which both the monarchs’ collections and the notable cultural enterprises promoted by them stand out, such as the construction of the Monastery of El Escorial or the founding of various women's patronages, thanks to the initiatives of the women of the royal family. This floor also references the origins of the Spanish Monarchy, represented by the Visigoth votive crown and cross, as well as those of Madrid, displaying the remains of the 9th-century wall.

Dedicated to the Bourbon dynasty, it covers a period of over three centuries, from the early 18th century until today. The tour, through the successive reigns, displays the personal interests and preferences of the monarchs and their families, both in the creation of the royal collections and in the construction and decoration of the new palace buildings, especially the New Royal Palace and the Palace of La Granja. The final section of the tour explains how these assets that once belonged to the Crown and are currently the property of the state, are managed by Patrimonio Nacional, the body responsible for their conservation and dissemination.

It is designed as a dynamic space with two main points of interest: the temporary exhibition hall and "The Cube", a 360º audiovisual space, where visitors can enjoy the gardens and palace interiors of the Royal Sites of El Escorial, Aranjuez, La Granja and El Pardo.
